Dolls' Houses Past & Present

About Me

Hello,

I was born in London but now live in East Anglia. I have just discovered this lovely site.  I am a doll's house enthusiast of 81, outwardly, but I am all of 10 where dolls houses are concerned.  However, I do not consider my hobby has anything to do with being childish; it is all about one's imagination, isn't it?.

Before I retired I woked as a secretary.  I have always had a great interest in reading and drawing, the latter especially when I was younger.  I enjoy photograpy too, a little, and have enjoyed taking photos of various scenes in my houses.  I have always been keen on the computer and have had great fun in the past with creating images and cards for fun, which made it easy for me to create tthings for my little homes such as tiles, 'china', and tiny books.

Hello Maddy, your house is just like mine, everybody coming and going and getting on with their lives and little tableaus left there until the family return. I particularly liked your picture of Mason getting ready for his bath, It looked fantastic the way his head was stuck in his jumper.
I , too, enjoy all crafts, art and photography and find it helps make all of those little bits and pieces that find their way into the dolls house. Imagination does indeed play a big part in our hobby, yours shines here. Thank you for leaving such a heartwarming message for me.

Maddy, How lovely of you, to leave such a kind, inviting message. I have such fun, viewing and chatting, on this site and I am hoping to learn much, as I go. I am new to this collection community and though I am in the USA, I was able to purchase an Amersham house, online and I simply love it! I would like to collect a few more houses, from England, but it is quite a challenge, trying to find ones that will ship, to me. It is such a joy, to see all of the wonderful doll houses, that the members here, have, and I just can't get enough of browsing through all of the photos, and reading all of the comments. ;) I have seen your profile picture, pop up, on more than one occasion and I love it! When was it taken? It reminds me of pictures of my mom, when she was younger. (She's a tad older than you, and has dementia, but she would love all of these charming doll houses and reminiscing.) Many thanks for your kindness and enjoy your weekend! Holly

Thank you so much for your nice message. I don't have so much time for the minis these days as I am caring for elderly parents but I do have a couple of projects in the pipeline so I will make more albums!
By the way, I hate most dolls house papers so rarely use them!!!😜

Hi Maddy,

I love your photo of the signpost "easiest way to the top" - haha, very good! Is that you? looking so adorable!

I am new here too and have a lot of similar interests as you do. Would love to see some of your mini scene photos, sounds sweet!

So far I have one dollhouse pretty much filled (Lundby - Gothenburg) and am just starting on another collection (Bodo Hennig). It's been fun going online finding just the right items here and there.

And now to meet other enthusiasts! You have inspired me. I will definitely be following your posts, thanks! :)

Hi, Maddy - welcome to this great site. I am a relative 'newby' having joined this site in June of this year. I have received terrific advice and support from the members. I endorse what you say about this hobby being about one's imagination. I've always embraced 'solitary' hobbies - to a degree, especially where the mind can run free. The beautiful thing about this site is that we don't have to remain solitary (unless we want to, of course) - but can share our hobbies. Enjoy!

Welcome to the site, Maddy. Like you, I find that taking photos of the mini rooms and the use of a computer a great way to enjoy dolls' house. I am not so far behind you in years either, and find the houses help me cope with the ever-changing world.

I hadn't realised that Cosford was missing from the photos! He will appear in other stories.
