Cedric Valley ruefully surveyed his new premises.
Not quite what he had hoped for but antique furniture was so hard to find these days. Brown Furniture to him meant 16th, 17th and 18th century furniture but this utility post-war Dol-Toi seemed to be all that he could find . He was toying with the idea of calling his new shop "Hill and Dale* - a play upon his name and that of his hated rivals up at Hill House - but on the sobering consideration that his shop's stock was so inferior compared to theirs, that he felt perhaps this was not the right moment for open warfare.

Oh - are they Barton? Sorry - it was job lot from a Charity Shop and I am forgetting my 1/16th history.

I'm shocked, Rosemary, ;-) surely many of those lovely items are my beloved Barton. First Margaret Towner casts nasturtiums and now Cedric Valley is turning up his nose at it! I spent years looking after mine and carefully polishing it with bits of raw walnut and every drawer and door fulfils its promise to a child and opens and shuts perfectly, which is more than I can say for some bits of furniture. :D

Ah, but so many of your followers are post war utility vintage themselves, Cedric!

Whilst many of us lived with the old tat.... I mean the wonderful antiques our parents inherited from earlier generations, we have fond memories of shop displays full of such new-for-their-time items and, when it came to furnishing our little abodes for younger members of the Grecon tribe, that was all that was available. Don't knock the Dol Toi items, without their existence, many of us would not be members of this group and your fans would be fewer in number.

A well stocked shop, am sure he'll work something out.

Shabby chic it all Cedric, it's all the rage at the moment. I'm sure you human bean is more than capable, I hear she is an incredible artist so she is sure to do something wonderful with these.

I am afraid that Cedric is a bit of a snob and full of pretensions.

Ah, but in the right setting this furniture looks lovely! Get your imagination going, Cedric ;-)
