Brooksey says...For much of the 20th century, the minimum height for male police officers in the UK was 5' 8" (1.72 m), but several forces (such as the City of London Police) chose not to appoint any man under 6' (1.83 m). Latterly, minimum heights came to be viewed as discriminatory and were no longer allowed.
"The [current] shortest officer in the UK, PC Sue Day of Wiltshire Police, is 4 feet 10 inches (147 cm) tall. The tallest is PC Anthony Wallyn of the Metropolitan Police who is 7 feet 2 inches (218 cm) tall. Both officers had to have their uniforms specially made for them due to their size." Jan says...You had to be fairly tall to join the police force years ago.
Rosemary says...So true, Jan.
