Ruined it :(
I carefully put some wallpaper paste on the wallpaper that looked so very good but was hanging loose. But the lesson I've learned here that one shouldn't underestimate the years and the existing, original wallpaper paste. It was brown already and that influenced the end result. I feel like crying.

Thank you.
It gives me less the feeling that I am rather stupid.

How frustrating and disappointing Kitty. I would have done exactly the same, cellulose-based wallpaper paste is a very "harmless" thing usually.

Sorry, Kitty, your English is so good I forget it's not your first language. 🙂

Zoe, I may have sounded to blunt.
My English is a bit more than basic but sometimes it is hard to explain exactly what my feelings are.
My retion wasn't meant personally towards you more more me thinking out loud.
That is because your words made me think, realize that what I own may be rather rare.

I do apologize for the rudeness, I completely understand your good will to help me.

I am not a purist, I'm not in shock and I wouldn't call you a Barbarian, Kitty. It is your house and you are of course free to do what you wish with it. I was only suggesting that card inserts would allow you to have the 'perfect' look without loosing the evidence of how the house looked when new. I was thinking of it from a preservation viewpoint (since you can find no other examples) not monetary. It was a solution that I was pleased to have suggested to me when I had a similar dilemma in one of my houses as I hadn't thought of it.

By now I really get the feeling that I have a rather rare house.
So I am in high doubts.
I am not a purist although I love these DDR houses in their original form and looks. But I am a perfectionist and I want my houses to look as if they are brand new.
That is why I restored my Gottschalk Butterfly roof house entirely.
Purist probably will be in shock and call me a barbarian but I don't restore to get more money for a house because I don't want to sell it. I just want it to be perfect.
That is why I shop for original replacements.
I don't use new wallpaper, I use the same as the Schönherr factory would have used. From the sixties.

So I do understand what you are saying here, I 'm getting really nervous now but I will stick to my plan: I will replace the wallpaper.
As I will replace the window frame since it is entirely gone. And I will do it properly because I'm good at it.

You could put the new wallpaper onto card inserts to preserve the original papers on the walls since this is clearly a very rare example of this house.

I can't find it either, I've been searching for several days now. Especially because I would like to see details of the window frames in the bedroom.

I'm wondering if this house is a rare one, cannot find another example.

Nope, it stayed as ugly as you can see on the picture.
It is what it is: I have to move on so I'm looking positive towards the new changes: authentic DDR (what you guys call WDR) wallpaper from the sixties. If I may presume the house is from that period of time....

We are 3 days further and it still looks like crap. I used my blowdryer the first day. It is a dry as dry can get.
I know there is wallpaper, the ones with a vinyl top-layer that will take days to dry, but this thin paper based wallpaper should be dry within 24 hours.
Now, there is a lot that I don;t know much about but since wllpaper nd paint is what my profession used to be about, I am very, very sure that I ruined this job :)
I ordered very beautiful, new (old) replacements.

It can take a long time to dry! One day is not enough!

Oh my dear Jeanette.
Wallpaper and paint: my specialties. I lost my job 3 years ago but al those years before that, I helped and advised people about those matters.
I know what I did wrong and I know it won't change for the better.
I found very nice wallpaper that will change the room for the better. It will take about two weeks to arrive and in the mean time I can paint, glue and make window panes, probably window frames too.
Thanks for caring :)
