Thank you Rebecca. What interesting reading. I hadn't realised that the Hobbies you referred to is a shop. There's SO much to this site. So many issues. I've just skimmed the surface. My feeling was it's '40s-'50s, probably post war, but I don't know for sure. Either way it's quite old, I hope someone still makes the bulbs and battery I'll need to get the lights going.

Thank you for the comments everyone. Rebecca the Hobbies Handbook sounds like a very useful, 'must have' book. Rosemary the roof tile paper is grey I think, not green, it's dirty & looks a bit darker in the photos. Zoe, you wouldn't know what size battery would you? Lol. I need to find some advice on wiring..I've always been useless at electrickery

Fran, I can't insert links in comments on photos, but if you look on the left at the main menu (just above where it says Welcome, where your profile is), at the bottom of that main menu is the current issue of our online magazine, and just above that Magazine archives. There's a Running Table of Contents - if you search that for Hobbies, you'll find my articles about their houses, wallpapers, etc. They produced a handbook every year (and still do).
Actually though, it was Handicrafts which sold the grey tile paper in the 1930s!

The roof looks as if it is the tile paper of the 1960s onwards, red or green but used sideways!!

Grey and red tile paper was available from the 1930s on, green later (1954 in the Hobbies Handbooks).

I think the door will be for the battery, it looks to be the right size.
