A Very Very Special House

The last present my husband bought me.

The last present my husband bought me.
My husband died from cancer 5 weeks ago. He bought this house for my birthday, just a couple of weeks before he died. The roof needs Major TLC, most of the tile strips of the middle gable being missing, and part of one window is missing but otherwise in quite a good condition. Underneath the white paint there seems to be the usual cream, and I think the roof would have originally been green as there are traces under the red paint.

Oh, that is so sad, Carol. I am so sorry. What a wonderful present from him: a very special project to keep you going and a house you will always treasure. Good luck.

I am so sorry, Carol. I have only just seen this album, as I was travelling when you shared it. This is a beautiful house - what a wonderful gift for your husband to leave you.

He worried so much about having to leave me on my own., and he knew how much I enjoyed doing up my houses.

Thinking of you, Carol. How lovely that your husband bought you a project to work on - it will be a tribute to him.

Thankyou all for your very kind thoughts. It is much appreciated. It has been a nightmare time, and it's still one day at a time, but I am beginning to get the itchy fingers again. Dolls houses kept me sane during his illness, until the last few months, and will keep me going now.x

So sorry to see your news Carol. What a lovely "memory" house for you to keep. Yes it is an Amersham and should be cream underneath the white with flowers round door, windows and garage doors.

Carol we don't know each other at all but I am very sad to hear of your loss. I hope that when you can settle to things again this lovely house will be a comfort to you and become part of your happy memories of your husband.

Hi, Carol - so very sorry. Your beautiful house indeed is very special and as time unfolds, I hope its restoration will help to heal your sadness. Take one day at a time.

Thankyou. He was originally very sceptical but in the end loved seeing my old wrecks transformed. I think it gave him great pleasure to think of me working on this one just for him.
