Your many colour-washed houses remind me of those I've seen in various towns and villages in the UK, including Beaumaris, Anglesey and Thaxted, Essex.

This back story makes me think of Dolly Bantry moving into East Lodge, after having to sell Gossington Hall, in "The Mirror Crack'd" by Agatha Christie.

I've always like the phrase 'reduced circumstances', conjures up so many images and elements of society
