Please see the caption to picture 2, previously, for the history of the model number. The dating of the house shown above poses a conundrum. It cannot be earlier than 1963, because that was the first year in which these transfers were used. The plastic front doors were introduced in 1964, but those houses usually had moulded plastic roofs, complete with an integral moulded chimney, and sliding fronts. The front on this house is what Marion Osborne has described as "pivoting" on two screws, rather than being attached with true hinges. In her book she says that she had never seen an example of this in a No 50, only in a 40, 45 and 55, although she hinted that a pivoting front No 50 would probably turn up one day. This mechanism, plus the transfers and the card roof would ordinarily date the house to 1963. It is the front door, from 1964 onwards, which makes this house a conundrum. Mixed details from different years makes for what Marion Osborne has termed a "transitional" house. The front doorstep - now, in fact, a short flight of three - has reappeared with the introduction of the plastic front doors (This photo copyright: Judy C). Please see the next picture for a view of the interior.
