Not sure about roof
Made of cardboard not wood. Could be worse. Taping at seems is in a poor state. At the moment it is black but you can make out slate detailing, but not sure what the original state would have been. There is evidence of red paint on the wood detailing.

I made the big room downstairs into a big kitchen rather than having a hallway. I struggled to fit everything into the kitchen before I did this. Mine had stairs originally which I, removed (put them away in a box), does yours have any sign of a stair well?

Might be worth asking about the tape in a forum, Carol, where more people will see it. I haven't replaced tape but lots of members have, unfortunately I don't know what tape they used. Patty has finitely retaped houses so you could send a personal message to her.

Are there gaps on the back for batteries and if so, could you post a photo of yours for comparison purposes? I think there is an album under 'Dolly Mixture' for this.

A 'Dolly Mixture' is the term Marion Osbourne gave to these houses in her A-Z of a Dolls' Houses (I don't think this is in print any more but copies occasionally come up on eBay). They are houses which are so similar to each other that we are pretty sure they come from one maker but we don't yet know who that maker was.

Have removed the tape on the seams as it was all crinkled and completely beyond repair. Anything thoughts on what to use to replace it.

I think I might just be removing to whole roof anyway while I am working on it. There was some electrics wires in the house leading up to the roof, which will have to be sorted or taken out. Not good with electrics so I might just get rid.

A lovely little house Carol, it's going to look fabulous when it's had a bit of TLC.

Thanks for that tip. I had never thought of wax polish, what a good idea.

This is the original roof, it will be difficult to get the black off without harming it. If this was mine i would repaint the wooden fascias in original colour (looks like they were red?) and leave the cardboard bits black, re-taping and touching up the scuffed bits with black paint and then a good wax and polish!
