I have just the thing ,I think although they were bought for a velvet waistcoat I was making and never finished. Maybe a peep into Grandma's button box is needed.

You can chop the shanks off or leave them on and fill in the gap with braid, makes the handle more secure, and leaves a nice gap at the top for a bead clasp.
Large beads make nice bags as well with the braid running through the bead middle to make a handle.

You bet! What a great idea. Love them all. Do you have to have buttons without shanks or can you just chop them off?
