1950s Schönherr house

Downstairs, the furniture seems to me to be home-made...
... of a fine light wood that feels and sounds like cigar-box wood. It has been varnished with that yellowy varnish so typical of the 1950s. The wallpaper is a replacement, it seems to be thin craft card and suits the house very well. Underneath the downstairs paper I can see a scrap of what looks like a sludgy/porridgey early 1950s paper.

I'm with you both, wholeheartedly - those porridge papers might be original, but they're so dreary and boring. If I had an old house with them, I'd be covering it up with printed card or card-mounted replacements, too!
