The Queen and her personal guard were assembled in the hotel drawing room.
Despite Captain Clutch's abject failure to take action to protect the Queen from the rogue republican gunman in January, he was still to be seen at her side and, Rabbie noted, he still lacked a certain attentiveness. There was however, a new presence at her side too, a very handsome and capable-looking Beefeater from the Tower of London - a sensible precaution thought Rabbie, but it still didn't explain why his old ex-mate Richard was still in the picture.
