It had been announced in the Queen's Birthday Honours list that Rabbie was to be awarded the Grecon Cross.
He was to receive this, the highest award available for civilian acts of heorism and courage in extreme danger, for selflessly taking a bullet to save the Queen's life in January. Being a modest man by nature, Rabbie had shied away from the formal award ceremony in Greckingham Palace a few days earlier but the Queen had insisted on a meeting and so he had been summoned to a smart hotel in Harrogate. The invitation had specified that he could bring two guests and so his fiancé, Joyce and his little sister, Flora were with him.
