U 1962-65
Designated TM7630 in addition to U in the 1964 catalogue. Open back. Four rooms. This example has all its original windows and doors. Three separate wooden uprights at the back. Uprights supporting the front permanently attached to the façade. Uprights, front and back, held in place by washers and nuts under base board and in roof space. Walls in 4mm thick paperboard, described as "strongly made...printed board" in the 1963 Tri-ang catalogue, slot into the uprights. Two plastic opening internal doors. Hardboard ground floor and bedrooms ceilings. White-painted wooden staircase fixed to internal wall; white-painted wooden solid balustrade attached to first floor (both original). Walls printed with colour depictions of interior decoration, furniture and accessories in all rooms. Some of these houses were produced with removable cream plastic staircases and matching removable balustrades which rose from the living-room to the right bedroom rather than from the kitchen to the upper left room. (The owner of the house shown here had another U with this variation as a child, which dated to the first year of production, 1962. Could it be that the plastic staircases were leftover after the "Queen Anne" houses were discontinued, and that wooden staircases were used in the later U and V models, once the QA staircases had been used up?). For more photos of this house, particularly for detail of the printed features on the internal walls, please see the album 'Julie Hardy's Tri-ang U' at:
