My great-grandfather and his father before him were cattle dealers. Behind their house on the fair green were old stables, empty in my childhood. This old toy stable in its solid simplicity reminds me of those unused cobwebby stalls, and my own childish sense of wonder when trying to imagine the life that once filled them.
