There are two sizes in the Ultra Modern range. The 53 and the 52 are a larger scale than the 49,50 & 51.

Thanks Rosemary, that explains it.   I have the 53, much refurbished, so much so that I viewed it with suspicion at first, thinking that it might be a modern copy.   Beautifully done though, with the exception of the green wood round the top of the balustrading.   I shall initially paint it white there, and perhaps remove it altogether if that doesn't do the trick.

Do you know where I can find photos of the 49, 50 or 51? Googling always seems to bring up the other two....

If you can find a copy of the reprint Tri-ang Toys 1937/8 they are all in there, or the page is also shown in Marion Osborne's disc with The Book of Triang Dolls' houses.

Ah, I wondered if those were the ones in the Tri-ang Catalogue reprint.  Yes, I have it but annoyingly it's in the museum in the Czech Republic.   That's the page I have been showing visitors, saying longingly that I have always wanted one of those!:)

That's all very helpful information Thankyou.

Patty- no I'm not bothered at all about scale per se I just don't want to make an expensive purchase to find that it looks completely out of place so hopefully I can start with a little bit of knowledge as to what may be about right.

I have just bought the book Janes recommended on Amazon for £2.81- bargain!. I'm not in a hurry to buy so will read that first.

I have a box full of furniture which lots of you have kindly identified for me so I think I. will spend an hour in an evening going through it to see which bits look right and which bits don't.

can anyone recommend and doll house fairs etc in the south west / midlands that are worth going to for inspiration?

I suddenly seem to have acquired a new hobby!

Glad to hear you have a new hobby! It is easy to get hooked. Just take your time with the furniture. With such a wonderful house it will look fabulous regardless. Enjoy going through your existing furniture and work from there. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you have some furnishings in it. The main thing is to have fun and be proud of your house - just enjoy!

I had an 'I can't get anything right' morning this morning, I was furnishing my newly decorated Dolly Mixture kitchen and it just didn't look right and the Barton items I wanted in there were in my Marx Colonial looking just right! Then... after lunch, I had a brainwave and tried my homeless Brimtoy in the Marx and it's perfect! The Barton went into the Dolly Mix and after a bit of faffing I was very happy with the new kitchen! I had a great day faffing, even if the morning was a downer and it made me think, this is what it's all about - faffing (aka playing but we don't mention this to the uninitiated!) so, my advice to you, Kate, is go forth and fafff!

I totally agree Zoe, we all have to faff and have fun! Perhaps that can be our new motto "Go Forth and Faff!".

Cestina, there are photos in the Gallery of a 49: http://www.dollshousespastandpresent.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=13398508 and a 50: http://www.dollshousespastandpresent.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=14290715 both owned by Anthea Simpson. The 50 is in more original condition than the 49; there were photos of an original 49, which have been deleted, but the comments about what had been added to Anthea's are still there.

I think there's at least one 51 on here somewhere, but I'm not sure where!
